Book Review of Night Lost.
Despite the many times I've re-read this book, I still enjoyed it very much.
There are a few reasons for this. The first is the pairing of Nicola and Gabriel. While Gabriel is supposedly the one with the power, Nicola is the one who protects the both of them throughout their time together. In fact, she saves Gabriel more than once. Just as important though is that I never felt either was less in any way because of their relationship. They truly balance each other out nicely. Nicola with her determination to face everything head on. She even gives Gabriel a tongue-lashing at one point for wallowing in self-pity. But when it comes to their relationship, Gabriel is the brave one. Once he accepts his feelings for her, he refuses to allow any petty misunderstandings to interfere with what they could have together.
Then, there is the way the vampires's talents in the series manifest. I love the idea of having them exude a scent unique to each, one which helps them to lure and hunt their prey. Yet how the scent affects the other Kyn, the memories and thoughts they evoke can be very different.
The ending too was nicely done as well. A truly terrifying and cruel punishment which demonstrates the vampire king's ruthless streak. It also left me wondering and wishing for his story.
My only complain is that in reading this book out of order, I found myself a bit lost. While this does not affect Gabriel and Nicola's story, there were times when the mention of other characters would leave me scratching my head in confusion. Still, this only whets my appetite for more of the series.
My conclusion : Recommended for paranormal romance fans, but I strongly suggest reading the books in order.

I just love re-reading a favorite book. There's nothing like getting something new from the story each time, you know?
