Book Beginnings (Jun 4)

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

My current read is The Magician's Apprentice by Trudi Canavan. This story is set in the same world as her earlier Black Magician Trilogy, and is a sort of a prequel. This opening sentence is a good indication of the heroine's involvement with the art of healing. We soon learn of Tessia's desire to be a healer as well as the opposition and discrimination she faces.
There was no fast and painless way to perform an amputation, Tessia knew. Not if you did it properly.

  1. Nothing like the painful and gory removal of body parts to grip you right away!
